WhatsApp QR code generator
Create a QR code that starts a WhatsApp chat with your number and a pre-filled message. Free PNG and SVG downloads.
There's an API for this — free, no key
Everything this generator does is also one GET request away. Build any QR code above, press API, and you get a shareable URL that renders the exact same design — PNG or SVG, any size up to 2048px, all dot styles, marker shapes, and colors.

A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with you directly — no saving contacts, no typing numbers. It is the fastest bridge from print to conversation: restaurant tables, product packaging, storefronts, and ads. A prefilled opening message tells you exactly which poster or product the chat came from, and for a business it turns a table tent or a package into a live support channel in one scan.
What a WhatsApp QR code encodes
The code holds a wa.me chat link built from your number and an optional message — the official format WhatsApp provides for click-to-chat. When opened it launches the WhatsApp app (or WhatsApp Web) straight into a conversation with you, with the message prefilled. Use full international format, and make sure it is the number your WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account is registered on, because the chat opens with that account.
What happens when someone scans it
The camera opens the wa.me link and WhatsApp launches into a chat with your prefilled message ready to send. The person still taps send, so nothing is sent without them. If they do not have WhatsApp installed, they are prompted to get it — so this works best for audiences you know use the app.
Why a prefilled message matters
A short opener like Hi! I'm interested in… lowers the barrier to that first message and doubles as a source tag: give each poster or product a slightly different opening line and you can tell at a glance where a chat began. Keep it short so the pattern stays easy to scan, keep contrast high, and download a PNG or a print-ready SVG.
Tracking scans and other contact options
WhatsApp does not report QR scans, so to compare placements put a trackable short link QR code beside the chat code. Prefer other channels for some audiences: an email code for formal enquiries, an SMS code where WhatsApp is uncommon, or a phone code for a direct call. The blog has guidance on picking the right one.
WhatsApp Business: catalogs and away replies
If you are using this for a business, a WhatsApp Business account makes the scanned chat do more. A greeting message can fire automatically when the conversation opens, an away message covers you outside working hours, and quick replies let you answer common questions with a tap. Point the code at that account and a scan from a table tent or a package becomes a guided conversation rather than a cold, empty thread.
Keep the code aimed at a number a human (or your team) actually watches, and vary the prefilled opener per placement so you can tell where each chat began. To measure reach as well as conversations — how many people scanned versus how many messaged — put a trackable short link QR code beside the chat code. For audiences who do not use WhatsApp, an SMS code is the safer default.
Other QR code types
Need a different kind of code? Try the SMS QR code and phone QR code. Any code here can become a dynamic QR code you edit after printing and track on every scan — and if you just need a short link, the URL shortener counts every click.
