Shorten links for your Instagram bio, Reels and DMs. Free and trackable — see how much traffic your profile drives, with a QR code and click analytics.
Why shorten links with INBIO
Instagram gives you one bio link and unforgiving captions. Make every character count with a short in.bio link — and since links in bios are exactly what we're named for, track precisely how much traffic your profile actually drives.
- Clean short links — turn long, messy URLs into tidy links you can share anywhere.
- Click analytics — see clicks, countries, devices, and referrers — with bots filtered out.
- Free QR codes — every link gets a downloadable QR code in PNG and SVG.
- Editable links — change the destination later — the short URL stays the same.
Instagram will not make a caption link clickable
This is the rule that shapes everything: a URL you type into a caption or a comment is not clickable on Instagram — it renders as plain text, so a long link there is pure clutter that eats into your 2,200 characters (only the first ~125 show before more). The only genuinely tappable spots are your bio, link stickers in Stories, and paid promotions. So the caption link exists to be read and remembered, which is exactly where a short, branded slug beats a raw URL: people can actually retype in.bio/spring.
Your bio link is the one that counts
Instagram now lets you add up to five links to your bio, though only one shows by default. That link is prime real estate — and it is the one thing we are literally named for. Put a short in.bio link there and you learn, precisely, how much traffic your profile drives: clicks over time, countries, cities, and devices, with bots filtered out. Change where it points whenever a campaign changes, without editing your profile, because the short URL stays the same. Building a whole link-in-bio landing page is a natural next step from there.
Previews, Stories, and tracking per post
When a link is tappable — a Story sticker, a DM, an ad — Instagram's crawler (Meta's facebookexternalhit) follows the redirect to your destination and reads its Open Graph tags to build the preview, so cards still look right through a short link. To see which post or Story drove the clicks, give each its own short link or tag the destination with the UTM builder. For print, packaging, or an in-store display, every link ships with a QR code. Running TikTok too? The TikTok shortener covers its different link rules.
Reels, Story link stickers, and DMs
The tappable spots on Instagram all behave a little differently, and a short link fits each. Story link stickers are now open to every account, and a short slug keeps the sticker tidy; a Reel can point people to your bio where the real link lives; and a link dropped in a DM generates a preview once Instagram fetches it. Everywhere else — captions, comments — the URL is plain text, so short and memorable is the whole game.
Run one short link per campaign and you can finally answer the question Instagram dodges: did the Reel, the Story, or the bio drive the traffic? The clicks come back by country, city, and device with bots filtered out. When you are ready to show more than one destination, a link-in-bio page is the natural next step, and if you post to TikTok too, the same short link lets you compare the two head to head.
