What is actually in an Amazon URL

An Amazon product link is mostly noise. The part that matters is /dp/B0XXXXXXXX — the ten-character ASIN. Everything around it (the SEO-friendly product name, /ref=sr_1_3, ?keywords=, &qid=, &sr=8-3) is search and session state that makes the URL 150+ characters long and impossible to read. Shortening keeps the ASIN redirect intact and throws the noise behind one slug, so a recommendation in a group chat reads as a link instead of a paragraph.

Affiliate links: read this first

If you are an Amazon Associate, the program's operating agreement requires you to use Amazon's own tools — SiteStripe, which generates a tagged link or an amzn.to short link — for affiliate links, and to disclose them. Wrapping a tagged affiliate URL in a third-party shortener can break attribution or breach the terms, so do not use this tool for that. Use it for ordinary product sharing: wishlists, recommendations, and support content where you are not earning a commission.

Tracking and QR codes for products

For non-affiliate sharing, a short link tells you how many people clicked a recommendation and from where — add a UTM with the UTM builder to compare the same product across your newsletter and socials. Every link also gets a QR code, which is handy for wishlists and registries printed on cards, or for putting a product on a physical shelf talker. Sharing a whole list of products? The bulk shortener handles them in one paste.

Wishlists, registries, and idea lists

Product pages are only half of Amazon. Wishlists and registries live at long amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/{id} paths, and idea lists and storefronts add their own IDs. These are exactly the links you want on a card, in a message, or on a QR sticker — a baby registry printed on an invitation reads far better as one clean slug and a scannable code than as a 90-character URL that no one will type.

Since these are not affiliate links, you can shorten them freely and, with a free account, see how many people opened the list and from where — useful for a group gift or a shared buying guide. Every link ships with a QR code for print, and a whole gift guide's worth of products can be shortened in one paste through the bulk shortener. Keep affiliate links on Amazon's own SiteStripe, as covered above.

Shorten links for other platforms

Sharing links across more than one network? We also have dedicated shorteners for Canva and Adobe. If you are weighing up tools, our benchmark of eight URL shorteners measures redirect speed, click tracking, and free tiers — and every short link here comes with a QR code for print. Handed a short link you don't recognise? Expand it to see where it goes, or run it through our link safety checker first.

A real example

https://www.amazon.com/Product-Name-Here-Wireless/dp/B0ABCD1234/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=headphones&qid=1717000000&sr=8-3

Shortened to

in.bio/your-slug

www.amazon.com/Product-Name-Here-Wireless/dp/B0ABCD1234/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=headphones&qid=1717000000&sr=8-3

The only load-bearing part is /dp/B0ABCD1234 — the rest is search state. The short link forwards to the same product page, so you can drop the ref and query safely; only the ASIN decides which product opens.
