What the ?si= on a Spotify link means

Every time you share from inside Spotify, it appends ?si= followed by a 16-character code. That is not a harmless tail — it is a share identifier that ties the link back to you, and it is how Spotify maps who shared what into its social graph. When you hand that link to your whole audience, everyone who clicks gets associated with your share token. Shortening with in.bio gives you a clean open.spotify.com/playlist/… forward without broadcasting your personal share ID to every listener, and it reads far better in a bio than a 40-character URL with a random suffix.

One link, four content types

Spotify URLs follow a tidy shape — open.spotify.com/{type}/{id} where type is track, album, playlist, artist, episode, or show. Whatever you are promoting — a single, an album drop, a curated playlist, or a podcast episode — the short link forwards to exactly that, opening the Spotify app on mobile and the web player on desktop. That makes short links safe for the one thing you most want streamed this week.

Posters, bios, and knowing what works

For artists the killer feature is the QR code that comes with every link: print it on a gig poster, a vinyl sleeve, or merch and fans scan straight into the track. To learn which channel actually drives streams — your Instagram bio, a newsletter, a poster — tag each with the UTM builder and read the clicks by source and country. Releasing a batch of singles or episodes? The bulk shortener does the whole list at once.

Pre-saves, episodes, and Spotify Codes

Spotify has its own scannable Spotify Codes, but they only work inside the Spotify app's camera — a QR code on every in.bio link opens from any phone's native camera, which is what you want on a poster seen by people who do not have Spotify open. The same goes for pre-save campaigns and podcast episodes: a pre-save link (run through a third-party tool) and an open.spotify.com/episode/{id} URL both shorten to something that fits an artist bio or a show-notes line.

The reason to shorten rather than paste the raw link is twofold: you drop the personal ?si= share tag, and you learn which channel converts. Tag each placement with a UTM — the Instagram bio, the newsletter, the gig poster — and read streams-driving clicks by source and country. Releasing a run of singles or episodes? The bulk shortener handles the whole list at once.

Shorten links for other platforms

Sharing links across more than one network? We also have dedicated shorteners for YouTube and TikTok. If you are weighing up tools, our benchmark of eight URL shorteners measures redirect speed, click tracking, and free tiers — and every short link here comes with a QR code for print. Handed a short link you don't recognise? Expand it to see where it goes, or run it through our link safety checker first.

A real example

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXcBWIGoYBM5M?si=aB3dEfGh1jKlMnOp

Shortened to

in.bio/your-slug

open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXcBWIGoYBM5M?si=aB3dEfGh1jKlMnOp

That ?si= tail is your personal share ID. The short link forwards to the same playlist without pinning your identity to every click.
